How does IPL skin rejuvenation work? When an intense pulse of light (IPL) passes safely through the top layer of the skin and at the junction of the epidermis/dermal layer, a wound-healing effect takes place. Collagen immediately begins remodeling itself, smoothing and removing/reducing wrinkles, crows feet, spider veins and brown spots (pigmented lesions). How many treatments will IPL skin rejuvenation take? The more collagen in your dermal layer, the less treatments to reduce wrinkles and tighten pores needed. Generally speaking, men and women in their 20s, 30s and 40s need three/four treatments and men or women in their 50s, 60s and 70s need five/six treatments. This does not necessarily hold true, as many younger men and women are happy with just one visit, and older men and women with more abundant collagen may need fewer treatments. Why should I use IPL for hair removal?IPL generally is safer and less expensive than laser treatment. Using the same wave lengths of light as laser, IPL targets the pigment in the hair root. Unlike laser, this is not one amplified beam of light, but a multitude of wave lengths. Therefore, the machine is less expensive to construct. Subsequently, savings can be passed along to the patient. Even though an individual might need several more treatments with IPL than with laser, the danger of side effects and costs are far less than with laser. How does IPL hair removal work?An intense pulsed light passes safely through the epidermis (top layer of skin) to the root of the hair where the pigment in the root of the hair immediately absorbs the energy and damages or kills the root of the hair. What are the possible side effects of IPL hair removal?Redness may occur for 10 minutes to two hours after a treatment. Other side effects involve hypo or hyper pigmentation which, in most cases, temporarily might make the skin lighter or darker than the surrounding skin. Sometimes an individual temporarily may experience a sun-burned sensation. When done by an inexperienced practitioner, blistering or scarring could occur. When you come for a consultation, your hair as well as skin color and type determine if you are a good candidate. What are advantages to IPL hair removal?
How does IPL differ from laser hair removal or electrolysis?Although electrolysis is always permanent, especially on the chin, upper lip or neck and on all colors of hair and skin shades, such as white, gray, blonde, red, brown and black, IPL has advantages in that it can treat a large number of hairs in a given area in a short time. A patient need come only once every five-seven weeks for a five to 15-minute treatment. The cost, when divided over five/seven weeks can be less expensive than electrolysis and far less expensive than laser. IPL can have less discomfort than in an electrolysis treatment. Compare how inexpensive IPL is versus laser treatment and the fact every hair is treated (as opposed to missed hairs with electrolysis). Electrolysis requires 15 minutes to three-quarters of an hour every week for about one year); IPL requires minimal maintenance after a successful series of treatments. When all the facts are considered, IPL becomes the treatment of choice for many. What areas can be treated? The most common areas are chin, upper lip and neck, followed by the bikini line, abdomen and underarms. More and more people are seeking IPL due to its quick treatment of large areas, such as women's arms and legs, bikini lines, all the way to the ankleas well as men's full backs, chest and shoulders. All areas can be treated! During a treatment, what should I expect?Minimal discomfort and ease. Although treatments are not painful, a sudden startling flash of heat is experienced during each pulse of energy. It might be described as a snapping sensation. After treatment there is little or no down time. LHE (Light Heat Energy) for acne
What is electrolysis?Electrolysis is the only method of removing unwanted hair permanently. There are three approaches: 1) Short-wave or radio frequencies (RF), commonly referred to as thermolysis, where a minute amount of energy in the form of heat is administered to the source of the root source of hair growth, destroying the hair from which the hair germinates. 2) Galvanism or direct current, where a small amount of direct current (measured in miliampers) is induced into the hair follicle causing the water and salt in the tissue to form sodium hydroxide in the follicle cavity, chemically dissolving the root of the hair. This is the original form of permanent hair removal called electrolysis invented by Dr. Charles E. Michel in 1875 and from which the profession derives its name. 3) The blend; wherein the short wave and galvanism process are blended. In this process short wave energy and direct current are induced into the follicle cavity simultaneously, drying up the water in the root or dermal papillia. At the same time, it is chemically dissolving the dermal papillia. This method is particularly effective on coarse hair such as chin and neck or at the bikini line. Short wave is a fast method of treating hair and effective on fuzzy areas such as the side of the face. How lengthy and expensive is electrolysis?Length and expense are dependent on many factorsamong them, how large an area is being treated; how pronounced is the problem and what are vthe causes of the problem?. Is excessive hair hereditary? Is it due to a hormonal imbalance, is the problem congenital? Is it due to some temporary physical state or to medication? In such instances, it may be advisable to work in conjunction with a physician in treating a person. Length and expense depend on what methods of temporary removal tried before and how long one has resorted to temporary methods. To best determine your condition, you should discuss your personal situation with Carl Neuben or an associate. Can temporary methods stimulate hair growth?Waxing and tweezing may greatly stimulate growth. The trauma to the area which has been waxed or tweezed during an extended time dilates the small blood capillaries nourishing the cells in the area, enabling them to produce richer and coarser hair. This affects not only the tweezed or waxed hair but fine, downy hair in the vicinity. Another disturbing development from tweezing and waxing is distortion of the hair root. A root twisted by temporary removal methods is often more difficult for an electrologist to destroy permanently than a normal hair. Does electrolysis hurt? When the small amount of pre-measured energy needed to destroy the hair is released, a sudden warmth is felt. The degree of sensation varies with the individual. However, it is completely tolerable, comparable with that felt when tweezing. What are the side effects of electrolysis?Generally, after a treatment the skin may appear red for 30 minutes to an hour. Other than this, no sign of having had an electrolysis treatment is noticeableother than the absence of excessive hairwhen done by a competent electrologist. |
